Was born at Portsmouth in 1650, died May 1716, twin of his sister Susannah, see subject 692. He married in 1680, Elizabeth Cooke, born 1653, died August 1716, daughter of John and Mary (Borden) Cooke, and grand daughter of Thomas and Mary (Harris) Borden, and great grand daughter of William and Susan Harris of Providence, R.I. Both William and Elizabeth Briggs died of smallpox in the epidemic of 1716. William in August 1667, was Ensign in the Colonial Army of Rhode Island, with his brother Thomas, in Capt Peleg Sanford's Horse Troop. He received on July 18/1699, and on January 27/1703, transfers of land from his father John Briggs. His Will, proved July 2/1716, left his son Job the dwelling house and farm, to William, land: to Susannah house and land occupied by Thomas Waite: to Elizabeth Woodman, œ100: to William œ30 and house stuff: to wife Elizabeth œ10 par annum to be paid by her son Job, and her choice of rooms and maintenance for four servants. Issue 1. Susannah Briggs. Born April 17/l681, died April l744. She married on November 6/1700, Robert Dennis, born 1677, died January 5/1730. See subject 172 for issue and further particulars. 2. John Briggs. Born November 13/1685, died January 21/1712. He married in l7O8, Elizabeth Forbes. 3. William Briggs. Born January 11/1688, died November 1763. He married on September 25/1713, Deborah Church and had 12 children. 4. Elizabeth Briggs. Born December 27/1689, died March 1763. She married, 1st, Richard Sisson: 2nd, on October 21/1708, John Woodman, born February 25/1682 died 1730. They had eight children. 5. Thomas Briggs. (twin) born September 5/1693, died March 23/1716. 6. Deborah Briggs. (twin) born September 5/l693, died November 1773. She married on May 3/1716 Benjamin Head born 1687, died August 6/1717. They had one child. 7. Job Briggs Died February 28/1739 at Portsmouth. He married, in ??????? Original print blanked out here. ???????
