The following is from "The Wildbores in America", by John Reid Wilbor and Benjamin Franklin Wilbour (l933)", and also from "The Wildbores in America" by John R. Wilbor, St Paul, Minn (1907), both on file at the New England Historical & Genealogical Society of Boston. William Wilbor was born 1630, died 1710 at Tiverton, R.I., He was a weaver of cloth. In 1653 he married Martha --. Practically all his life after his marriage was spent in Portsmouth. He bought land there from his father in the swamp below John Tripp's land. On December 10/1658 he was granted 10 acres in Portsmouth. On December 20/1658 he sold six acres there to Peter Tallman, later sold to John Briggs. In 1665 he was appointed Jurynan at Portsmouth: June 1/1668 Constable: March 17/1669 Grand Juryman: April 25/1672 Member of the Court: April 25/1678 Deputy to the General Assembly at Warwick, Portsmouth, Newport and Providence Plantations: September 12/1680 Tax Collector. Served on the Grand Inquest in 1662, 4-6, 91-2. On December 30/1691 made over to son Samuel (subject 174) half of a 50 acre lot in Little Compton. On May 5/1694, Portsmouth made an allotment of 12 acres to him for 24 shillings. On April 25/1709, he bought 300 acres in Tiverton. In 1704 he transferred all his land in Portsmouth to his son Benjamin, near the present Portsmouth railway station on the road to the ferry at Bristol. His Will, proved August 15/1710 reads:- Item: I will that my son John's two children John and Mary Records shall have œ30 equally between them which is due to me by bond from my said son John. Item: To my Son Daniel all my land in the first division of Shawomokee, Great Neck. Item: The œ43 which my son Samuel is indebted to me, I give and bequeath to be equally divided amongst his children. Item: I will that œ25 which my daughter Mary Mowry is indebted to me for, I give and bequeath to her grandchildren, to be equally divided between them. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Joseph œ100 in money. Item: I give to my son John œ20 in money. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Benjamin the money which is my due by bond from Daniel Wilcox, deceased. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Martha Sherman, œ10 in money, and to my daughter Joan œ10. I give and bequeath to my four sons John, William, Joseph and Samuel, all my lands in Little Compton to be equally divided between them. I give and bequeath the rest of my estate to all my grandchildren to be equally divided between them, and ordain my son Joseph sole Executor. Inventory of the estate was œ436.l2.8. All his sons settled at or near Little Compton for many generations. Issue 1. Mary Wilbor. Born 1654, died April 17/1720. Married in 1671, Joseph Mowry, born 1647, died 1716. Had one daughter Mary, born October 17/1672 married Daniel Coggeshall and had one son Joshua who married Joan Waite. 2. Joseph Wilbor. Born 1656 died May 4/1729. Married in 1663, Ann Brownell born 1662, died 1747, daughter of Thomas and Ann Brownell, They had ten children, 3. John Wilbor. Born 1658. Married 1682, Hannah -- and had 2 children. 4. Thomas Wilbor. Born 1659. Married Mary --- of West Kingston. 3 children. 5. William Wilbor. Born December 1660, died 1758. Married, 1st, -- Tallman, who died 1732, daughter of Peter Tallman and had twelve children by her: 2nd, Joan Briggs. 6. Martha Wilbor. Born 1662. Married May 12/1681, William Sherman, born October 3/1659, son of Peleg and Elizabeth (Lawton) Sherman. 9 chldrn. 7. Samuel Wilbor. Born 1664 died 1740. Married in 1689 Mary Potter, daughter of Nathaniel & Elizabeth (Stokes) Potter. See subject 174 for issue and further particulars. 8. Daniel Wilbor. Born 1666 died November 28/1741. He married in 1688 Subject 348. P2 (324) Ann Barney, died 1741. They had ten children. 9. Joan Wilbor, Born 1668, died 1759. She married in 1688, Nathaniel Potter and had two children, see subject 350. 10. Benjamin Wilbor. Born 1670 died 1729. He married, 1st, on June 22/1700 Mary Kinnicut, died February 14/1706, daughter of Roger and Joanna Kinnicut and had four children by her. He married, 2nd, on November 2/1710, Elizabeth Head, died 1734, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Head. He had nine children by her.
