Subject 366 (331) ABEL BENJAMIN The following is from Charlestown Genealogies by Thomas Bellows Wyman, Vol 1, p 77. Abel Benjamin was of Charlestown and died there in 1710. He was the son of John Benjamin of Watertown, Mass, and his wife Abigail who died at Charlestown May 20/1687. He married on November 6/1671, Amethia Mirricke, who died May 10/1713 His estate was inventoried at œl28.0.0. Issue:- 1. Mary Benjamin. Born December 22/1672. She married on November 30/1710, Samuel Smith. See subject 182 for issue and further particulars. 2. Abel Benjamin. Born February 2/1675, died December 2/1675, 5. John Benjamin. Born November 21/1676. He married, 1st, on September 15/l702, Elizabeth Carter, born 1670, died of smallpox January 3/1721 and had three children by her. 2nd, on January 3/1722, Hannah Kettell, born 1676, died July 15/1732. 4. Abigail Benjamin. Born August 26/1680, 5. Joshua Benjamin. Born April 10/1686, died about 1733. He was Captain of the Brigantine "Sarah" and sailed between Boston and Jamaica. He married on November 10/1724, Abigail Phipps, who married, 2nd, in 1740, Joseph Austin. A Log-book exists with Joshua Benjamin's name in it, dated l710, taken by the ship "Kent", 70 guns, 440 men, from the "Hardie Brithae", a French ship of 400 tons, 32 guns, 175 men. He returned from, London on April 10/1713, arriving at Newcastle Harbor in the ship "Lusitania", Capt Thomas Holland, after an absence of six years and four months, serving Queen Anne on board the following men-of-war:- the "Devon- shire", "Northumberland", "Greyhound", and "Kent". His will devised to wife Abigail, sister Abigail, brother-in-law Samuel Phipps, and niece Mary Smith. They had four children.
