(345) 6/20/52 JOHN STRICKLAND The following is from "Samuel Hicks Seaman", by Mary Thomas Seaman, New York 1927: and from the New York Genealogical & Biographical Record, Vol 10, page 13, containing an account of Early North Hempstead, L.I., by Charles B. Moore: also from vol 30, page 203. John Strickland's birth is unknown: he died 1672. He and his family came from Westmoreland County, England, and settled first at Charlestown, Mass in 1629-30: freeman in 1631. He moved first to Watertown, then Wethersfield, Conn., and Fairfield, Conn, then moved to Hempstead, L.I., where he was a patentee in 1644. The name of his wife is unknown: her first name was Jane. Issue: - 1. Thwaite Strickland. He settled in Wethersfield, Conn. 2. Samuel Strickland. He settled in Long Island. 3. Elizabeth Strickland. She married in 1644, as his first wife, John Seamen, born 1605-1610, died 1694-5. See subject 538 for their issue and further particulars. 4. Daughter. name unknown. She married John "Rock" Smith, born about 1615, died at Hempstead, L.I., in 1706. See subject 260 for issue and further particulars.
