The following is from the "Genealogy of the Wilbour and Allied Families", by Benjamin Franklin Wilbour of Little Compton, R.I. (1936). Also from Virkus Compendium of American Genealogies", Chicago (1933). Nathaniel Potter came from England in 1634 to Portsmouth, R.I., where he died in 1644. He married Dorothy ---, born 1617, died February 19/1696. After Nathaniel's death, she married, 2nd, John Albro. Issue:- 1. Nathaniel Potter. Born 1637, died October 20/1704. He married Elizabeth Stokes. See subject 350 for issue and further particulars. 2. Ichabod Potter. Born 1639, died 1676. He married in 1661, Martha Hazzard, daughter of Thomas Hazzard, born 1610, died 1680, and Martha who died 1669. After Ichabod's death Martha married Benjamin Mowray. Issue:- 2/1. Thomas Potter, born 1663, died 1728. He was a Planter, Merchant and Slave holder at Portsmouth. He married, 1st, in 1686, Susannah Tripp, born 1667, daughter of John & Susannah (Anthony) Tripp: 2nd, Lydia Sherman. 2/2. John Potter. Married Sarah Wilson. 2/3. Robert Potter. Married Elizabeth Cole, daughter of John & Susannah (Hutchinson) Cole. They had five children. 2/4. Ichabod Potter. Married Margaret Helme, daughter of Rouse & Mary.
