The following is from "Colonial Families" , by the American Historical Society of New York (1929), on file at the New England Historical & Genealogical Society of Boston. Simon was the younger son of Hugo, Lord of Mancestre, who died in the 37th year of the reign of Henry III, leaving two sons, Walter and Simon. Simon inherited the Lordship of Tanworth in Warwickshire, whither he removed and when a certain large moated place beareth yet the name of his habitation. It is not known who the wife of Simon was. Issue:- 1. Simon de Mancestre. Knight, temp 6th year of the reign of Edward II. He was one of the Knights for the county Warwick. He appeared at the Parliament held at Westminster, on which occasion, he gave for distinction of his Arms, from those of the older line, the following:- Vaire, argent and sable, 3 lizards upon the bad. He took part in the historical Tourney at Stepney, in the 2nd year of the reign of Edward II, and it is indicated that he was of the party of Barons, opposed to the Earl of Lancester, favorite of Edward II. 2. Henry de Mancestre. Having been a younger son, little memorable of him is preserved. See subject 640 for issue and further particulars.
