The following is from The Thayer Genealogy, by Ruth Thayer Haversecroft, Colorado Springs, 1943-7. The name is spelled in 12 different ways Merrick, Mereck, Mirick, Mirrick, Mirricte, Myrick, Merek, Merrek, Mireck, Mirrack, Myricke John Myrick was born at St. Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales, about 1579, and died at Hingham, Mass., on July 2/1647. In 1637 he received a grant of land at Hingham, so must have come to America prior to that time. St David's, where he was born, depended entirely on fishing for the support of its inhabitants, which accounts for the occupation of his children in America. He married Elizabeth ---, born and died in Roxbury, Mass., where she died on August 25/1650. She sold her husband's estate in Higham in 1649 to Thomas Thaxter. Issue:- 1. William Myrick. Born 1603 at St Davids, Wales, died between 1686 and 1688-9. He came to America in the "James" in 1636, and received a grant of land in Plymouth. He married at Duxbury, Mass., in 1642, Rebecca Tracy, born at Plymouth, Mass., 1624-7 daughter of Stephen Tracy: she survived her husband, and they had ten children. 2. James Myrick. Born in St Davids, Wales, in 1612. He was a fish packer and a cooper, and owned his shop on the waterfront of Charles- ton. In 1657 he moved to Newbury and became a farmer. He married, about 1652-3, Margaret -, who died at Newbury, April 2/1708, and they had eight children. 3. John Myrick. Born at St Davids, Wales, in 1614, died at Charlestown, Mass., February 15/1678-9. He married, 1st, Hopestill --, born 1619, He married, 2nd, at Cambridge, Mass., on April 3/1655, Elisabeth Wyborne, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Wyborne of Tenderden, Kent, England. See subject 734 for issue and further particulars. 4. Thomas Myrick. Born at St Davids, Wales, in 1620, died at Springfield, Mass. on September 7/1704. He came to America in 1630, and settled in Roxbury, Mass, and in 1636 moved to Springfield. He married 1st, at Springfield, on July 14/1639, Sarah Stebbins, daughter of Rowland Stebbins of Springfield, and had five children by her. He married, 2nd, on August 21/1653, Elizabeth Tilley, who died at Springfield on August 2l/1684, and had eight more children by her. 5. Sarah Myrick. Died before 1700. She married on April 27/1664, John Atkinson, born 1634, died 1715, son of Theodore Atkinson. after Sarah's death John married, 2nd, on June 3/1700, Hannah (Noyes) Cheney, widow of Peter Cheney, who died January 5/1705?.
