The following is from three Genealogies, namely, "The Cooke Family Descendants & Relatives of Francis Cooke of the Mayflower 1577- 1820", and from the "Genealogy of the Wilbour & Allied Families", by Benjamin Franklin Wilbour of Little Compton (1936)", and from Austin's Rhode Island Dictionary, Gray Genealogy", and from the "Davol-Willetts Genealogy", by Josephine C. Frost, N.Y. (1925). Edward Gray was born in England on April 15/1623, at Stapleford Tawney, and died at Tiverton on June 30/1681 or 4. Buried at Plymouth Burial Hill, where his gravestone, of blue slate, roughly made and rudely cut, is the oldest in the Cemetery. He ant his younger brother Thomas, came to Plymouth in 1643. He was then a boy and the Gray family says that the two boys were smuggled on board and sent over by friend in England, intriguing for the possession of property which rightfully belonged to the boys. He was a Merchant and Ship Owner and resided in that part of the town bordering on Kingston. He was one of the first purchasers of Middleboro in 1662, and Deputy for Plymouth from 1676 to 1679. Edward married, 1st, at Plymouth on January 16/1651, Mary Winslow, born 1630, died 1663, daughter of John Winslow, son of Edward and Mary (Schilton) Winslow, who came on the Mayflower, and brother of Governor Edward Winslow. He married, 2nd, on December 12/1665, Dorothy Lettice, who died 1686. After Edward's death, Dorothy married, 2nd, Nathaniel Clarke. Issue:- (by his first wife) 1/1. Desire Gray. Born November 6/1651. Born August 12 or 21/1659, died February 14/1786-7. She married at Marshfield, Mass, on May 18/1682, Samuel Little, born 1656, died January 16/1707, son of Thomas and Ann (Warren) Little. Ann Warren was an elder sister of Sarah Warren who married John Cooke, son of Francis Cooke of the Mayflower, see subject 686. 1/5. John Gray. Born October 1/1661. He married Joanna Morton. Married 1st, Ann . 2nd, Phebe ---. 1/9. Samuel Gray. Born 1682, died March 23/1712. He married on July 13/1699, Deborah Church, born 1672, daughter of Joseph & Mary (Tucker) Church.
